Design:
We have designed five fully custom retrofit systems (Toronto City Hall, 400 University, 60 Bloor, 330 Bay, MacDonald Block) to meet the particular challenges and criteria of our projects. We cover all aspects of the design process include concept drawings, custom extrusion design, shop and fabrication drawings, and architectural and technical mockups. Where practical we will use both “off the shelf” and custom systems to meet project requirements.
Testing:
Whether it is laboratory testing of our custom systems, site testing of existing systems to identify deficiencies, or site testing of installed systems to validate the retrofit design and installation, C3 has a depth of experience. We work with leading laboratories throughout Canada to complete the appropriate testing protocols on our systems. These testing methods include standard ASTM and AAMA air and water penetration, and project specific tests for structural performance and forced entry resistance.
Access Systems & Logistics:
As most specialty glazing projects occur in busy, built up areas, and do always accommodate common material handling methods used in new construction such as tower cranes and material hoists, C3 specializes in designing and optimizing the systems on a project by project basis. We pay particular attention to working around occupied space and ensuring the safety of tenants, the public, and our workers.
Heritage:
We have completed glazing retrofits on designated heritage buildings such as Toronto City Hall, MacDonald Block, County of Wellington Courthouse, and numerous other buildings. This adds particular challenges to meet modern performance standards while respecting the heritage designation. It often requires significant customization to simultaneously meet all requirements.
Work of Occupied Spaces:
Because of our background in retrofit, we regularly execute projects in and around occupied spaces. We understand the importance of minimizing disruption and plan project execution accordingly. This includes design of access and protection systems, hours or work, phasing, and design of systems to minimize installation durations. We have extensive experience working in high traffic, sensitive areas including hospitals, universities, government buildings, shopping malls, and commercial towers.
C3 Specialty Glazing Solutions is committed to providing advanced, full service solutions to building owners, managers, consultants, and general contractors in three primary service areas:
Retrofit: C3 SGS will design and implement solutions to meet performance, technical and architectural requirements for façade retrofit needs. We specialize in retrofit on occupied buildings. We minimize costly disruption to tenants, thereby maximizing your return on investment.
Structural Glass/ Custom Glazing Systems: With trends in design leaning towards uninterruptedsite lines and use of ‘big glass’, often for building features such as podium applications, the C3 SGS team will work with industry partners to provide cost effective, enduring solutions to thesestructurally challenging applications.
New Construction: We leverage our strong design experience to provide value to clients ontechnically challenging installations, often involving custom design or unique materials. We havea proven record of providing creative design solutions to achieve the architectural vision forprojects on a budget that makes sense for owners. We provide design/build design/assist servicesfor unitized curtain wall, glass feature walls, and other new construction services.
Dynamic/ Electrochromic Glass: At the leading edge of industry advances, the application ofdynamic/ electrochromic glass, a responsive glass, results in higher employee comfort andproductivity while reducing energy costs for building owners.
Our team has completed all types of retrofit including reglazing, overcladding, design and installation of custom curtain wall and window systems, structural retrofits, and complete removal and replacement of curtain wall and cladding systems. We have retrofit more than 20,000 vision units, spandrels, and skylights over the past 5 years.
